Children's Book on Fighting Anti-Asian Racism During COVID-19
Young, Proud, and Sung-jee is an online book I wrote with the help of my colleagues and fellow advocates, Emily Ku and Maggie Chen, to help children and families make sense of and address anti-Asian racism during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The story revolves around a school-aged girl named, Sung-jee, who tries to make sense of COVID-19 and racially charged experiences that came with it because of the way she looks. With the loving support of her family, she figures out a way to fight back against anti-Asian racism and helps a friend of her navigate it as well.
A free copy of the book is available here. For read alouds and multiple translations, including Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and more, please visit the official book website by clicking the button below.

My co-author, Emily Ku, and I also interviewed with a children's media channel, NOW KIDS, to discuss the writing of Young, Proud, and Sung-jee and our thoughts on the recent waves of anti-Asian hate.
We specifically discuss what children and families can do in the face of anti-Asian bullying and racism during the COVID-19 pandemic and on. Check out the clip by clicking the YouTube video.
