Children's Book on Fighting Anti-Asian Racism During COVID-19
Young, Proud, and Sung-jee is an online book I wrote with the help of my colleagues and fellow advocates, Emily Ku and Maggie Chen, to help children and families make sense of and address anti-Asian racism during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The story revolves around a school-aged girl named, Sung-jee, who tries to make sense of COVID-19 and racially charged experiences that came with it because of the way she looks. With the loving support of her family, she figures out a way to fight back against anti-Asian racism and helps a friend of her navigate it as well. A free copy of the book is available here. |
My co-author, Emily Ku, and I also interviewed with a children's media channel, Adventure Theater, to discuss the writing of Young, Proud, and Sung-jee and our thoughts on the recent waves of anti-Asian hate.
We specifically discuss what children and families can do in the face of anti-Asian bullying and racism during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. |
